1. Structural design
Core components
The worm reducer gearbox is mainly composed of a worm and a worm wheel. The worm is a shaft with helical teeth, similar to the shape of a screw, while the worm wheel is a gear with a special tooth shape. The two mesh with each other, and this meshing method is staggered shaft transmission, usually with an angle of 90 degrees between the two shafts. The reducer housing is generally made of high-quality cast iron or cast steel, with good rigidity and sealing, which can protect the internal transmission components and provide a stable support environment for them.

Due to the unique structure of the worm and worm wheel, the entire worm reducer gearbox has a compact structure. This compactness gives it a great advantage in equipment with limited space, such as in the narrow space of some small machine tools and automated production lines, where it can be effectively installed and play its transmission function.

High-efficiency reduction
It can achieve a larger reduction ratio, a wide range of single-stage reduction ratios, and can effectively convert high-speed input power into low-speed and high-torque output. This feature makes it very practical when it is necessary to convert high-speed power sources such as electric motors into low-speed, high-torque power suitable for working equipment, such as in the hoisting mechanism of cranes, conveyor belt drives of mining equipment, etc.
Self-locking function
Under certain conditions (when the lead angle of the worm is less than the equivalent friction angle of the worm gear meshing), the worm reducer gearbox has a self-locking characteristic. This means that when there is no external force driving the worm to rotate, the worm wheel cannot drive the worm to rotate in the opposite direction. This feature can prevent the load from falling in the opposite direction due to its own weight when the power input stops in materials lifting devices, greatly improving the safety of the equipment.
Stable operation
Since the meshing process of the worm and the worm wheel is relatively continuous and smooth, the vibration and noise generated during operation are relatively small. This is an ideal transmission component for occasions with high requirements for working environment noise and stability, such as precision instrument manufacturing workshops, food processing equipment, etc.
